Autism
What is autism?
Autism is a a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Autism is identified by repetitive behaviours, a lack of social skills, repetitive behaviours and in some cases nonverbal communication. Children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have symptoms that range from moderate e.g. Asperger's to severe. e.g. cognitive deficits, language problems and repetitive behaviours. Research shows that 1 in 54 children in the USA is effected by Autism.
Children on the Autistic Spectrum can have different combinations of symptoms where their strengths or weaknesses are displayed. There is no single cause of Autism, but studies show that Autism is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. One needs to understand that Autism is not a psychiatric condition but a biological one. In some patients, the environmental and genetic factors result in wounding the brain thus causing Autism. In others, there is inflammation or a lack of connectivity in the brain and some causes are unknown. What researches have found in blood flow imaging of those with Autism, are deficits in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, these areas of the brain focus on processing stimuli, language and social skills.

How can HBOT help with Autism?

Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy can be used to treat wounds and inflammation in the brain. In autistic patients where there are areas of inflammation or wounds HBOT is ideally suited. In patients who have autism through genetic factors, HBOT can also help them since HBOT is very effective in turning on or off 40% 0f all human genes, therefore HBOT is able to turn on growth and repair hormone genes, anti-inflammatory genes and turn off genes which are sending the wrong brain signals.
Regardless of cause, hyperbaric oxygen treatment of autism allows for healing of the brain. It does so by providing the brain’s tissue and cells with the right levels of oxygen and pressure. HBOT is very effective and accomplishes healing with minimal side effects.
