Epileptic seizures and HBOT
Updated: Oct 11

I was diagnosed with epileptic seizures when I was a teenager.
Epilepsy is caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. They can involve jerking movements, loss of awareness, unusual sensations or convulsions.
Doctors once told me I would never live independently or be able to drive, and that I would eventually need full-time care.
When I began hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) at Oxychai, my seizures was not under control. I went on to complete more than 100 sessions. During this time, I saw a reduction in my seizures, especially in my really severe night seizures. Progress was gradual, and there were moments when I wondered whether I would ever be seizure-free!
Looking back now, I’m so glad I persevered.
Over time, I was able to change to a medication that was much less harsh on my kidneys and liver. Today, I’m incredibly proud to share that I have been seizure-free for 2.5 years!
The difference in my life has been enormous. I now work full-time, teach, and look forward to gaining my independence through driving and building a future I was told might not be possible.
In my role as a paramedic in the ambulance service, I have seen how hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used as part of the treatment pathway for certain conditions, including stroke, car accidents and stab wounds.
My own experience has taught me that progress does not always happen overnight. Sometimes, improvements come gradually, and it can be difficult to recognise how far you have come until you look back.
I truly believe HBOT played an important part in my personal journey, alongside my medical care. I am incredibly grateful to the Oxychai team for encouraging me to keep going, even when I felt uncertain. Their support and belief in me meant so much during the difficult times. I am now planning to begin maintenance sessions as part of my ongoing journey.
Incredibly grateful
