Learning difficulties and HBOT

Updated: Feb 28

My daughter, now 16, underwent 40 sessions at the Oxychai Therapy Centre. At birth, she was delivered by C-section at 38 weeks due to reduced fetal movement, as the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and foot. Although her early development appeared typical initially, it became apparent at nine months that she had not yet rolled over or met other developmental milestones.

At 17 months, we enrolled her at Ezer Layeled, where occupational therapists and physiotherapists worked with her on crawling skills. By age two, as she was still not walking, she was placed in a special needs school, Aim Habonim. There, she learned to walk and gradually acquired other developmental skills. Over time, she successfully transitioned into mainstream education, where she developed reading skills. While she can learn through visual methods, she has consistently found abstract concepts, such as mathematics, to be challenging.

Seeking further progress, my daughter chose to try Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at Oxychai, with the hope of unlocking her potential. Since then, she has made remarkable strides in communication. Previously, when overwhelmed, she would leave the room rather than express her feelings; now, she articulates her thoughts much more clearly.

A recent incident highlighted my daughter's growing independence: I returned home to find the kitchen which had been a big mess now spotlessly organized—a task that would have previously overwhelmed her due to difficulties with sequencing. This initiative is a marked change from her usual need for prompting. Additionally, she now actively participates in conversations with her married siblings, contributing thoughts and feelings rather than struggling to follow the dialogue.

Overall, my daughter has become more socially aware and is able to engage with family and friends. She is now much more mindful of her surroundings and finds fulfillment in productive activities during the evenings, a significant shift from the past when she would feel overwhelmed and idle for hours.
